How to enhance voter awareness of the Public Advocate's office

To: Mark Green, Candidate for Public Advocate
Never did I imagine myself taking personal interest in an election for the Public Advocate, until now. The "tipping point" for me was a sobering realization that even the clear-as-crystal provisions of laws duly passed by city legislature are dead letters without a dedicated enforcer. I optimistically set out to find a public agency willing and competent to rein in a predatory airport van service company victimizing or short-changing hapless passengers with impunity. But after spending some four months banging on doors to different public entities -- the Consumer Affairs, the Public Advocate's office, state and city transportation departments and the Port Authority -- I am back to square one in search of a department claiming jurisdiction over the city statute purported to protect the consumer from an enterprise engaged in "deceptive or unconscionable trade practices" as defined under the Consumer Protection Law.
This disappointing search led me to a fading memory of the days when you were holding the office of the Public Advocate, valiantly slugging away for distressed consumers at the hands of predatory vendors. And that's why I support your candidacy.
Yes, you must get your "old job" back, but with a clear sense of mission: First restore the moribund office to life. Then move on to the City Hall with a big mop to sweep away the chronic apathy and lethargy reigning therein. And beyond Gotham? Make the sky the limit.
If I were to offer my "best idea" or advice for your campaign, I say you should make extra effort to collect personal little episodes like mine and weave them into a general theme of public interest, into biting slogans, which in turn will enhance the public awareness, of a lack thereof, of the role and importance of the Office. The ultimate payoff for the effort will come when you have motivated those trekking to the polling booth on the election day enough to look for your name as the one who will make a difference.
You may add two secure votes to your tally on election day, although I have yet to secure an irreversible pledge from my wife.
Best wishes,
Ben O. Jone
